Boats. February 2026.
Designer
This installation responds to the escalating global displacement crisis reflected in recent UNHCR statistics, which reports 117.3 million forcibly displaced people worldwide by mid-2025. As part of the piece, 500 handmade paper boats were created using quotes from A Small Boat by Vincent Delecroix, transforming fragments of text into fragile vessels that symbolise migration, loss, hope and survival. The repetition of the boats evokes the overwhelming scale of displacement while also emphasising the individuality of each journey. Through accumulation, material fragility, and spatial arrangement, the installation invites the audience to confront the human stories that exist behind global statistics.
The installation was exhibited in February 2026 at the theatre of Wimbledon College of Arts.
